British version of a highly collectible Soviet avant-garde and propaganda textile design book. Textile designs on new propaganda themes began to appear in the mid-1920s. As for the early twenties, it was the most difficult period for the Soviet textile industry, which suffered from all the hardships and aftereffects of the Civil War. Fabrics produced in those years were marked by simplicity in their patterns and were printed from traditional designs which were easier to manufacture. At the beginning of 1923, the mass media were calling on design masters to meet the needs of industry. The first to respond were the designers L.Popova, V. Stepanova, and A. Rodchenko, who came to work at the First Cotton Printing Mill in Moscow. Pioneers and enthusiasts of industrial art, they were captivated by the romantic dream of merging art into daily life.
This rare book includes the most characteristic specimens of textiles. Full-color plates of textiles from the collection of the Russian Museum in Leningrad. Text in English. Samples from textile mills in Ivanovo, Moscow, Leningrad, Schlüsselburg, and more, with designs by Preobrazhenskaya, Burylin, Nazarevskaya, Griun, Lotonina, and others. 106 pages.
This art book is in good condition, with tears on the soft cover, library stamps, difficult to find these days.
